Sandra Tamba, 11 of the R.B. Richardson High School in Grand Gedeh County exhibited poise beyond her age Saturday to emerge as the 2009 Spelling Bee Champion in Liberia, out-spelling sixty-five other finalists for the coveted national title. It was a fitting triumph on a day which saw many fine performances and great young spellers fall out of contention for the top prize. MONROVIA Jun 9 (IPS) - After watching the murder of her husband and his three other wives by Charles Taylor’s rebels Fatu Bonah
and her seven children fled into the dense forest to hide. The rebels burned down our home and when I returned my in-laws had taken the land she says. I went to the town chief who tried to resolve it but the family refused saying they had already taken over the land.
Bonah lived on a fertile farm in Kolahun Lofa County along the northern mineral-rich Guinean border. The second of four wives middle-aged Bonah had laboured in their garden and home for years until Liberia’s brutal civil war shattered everyone’s lives. read more

Our Projects
Grand Gedeh County like most underdeveloped county in Liberia, West Africa must encourage, promote and provide its youths the educational training needed to become productive and useful citizens. Not only the youth populations but also adult education must be of high priority. Therefore, GGYAD goal is to assist in providing adequate educational materials and supplies to produce a well educated citizenry. To meet our goal for this program, GGYAD solicits donations of textbooks (used or new) which cover all areas of curriculum for elementary, high school and college. We also accept donations of pens, pencils, chalks, notebooks, stationeries, personal computers (used or new) copiers and other school laboratory equipments. read more
